Here’s a question I ask students:
“Do you have any experiences in English that you’d like to share from last week? Did you encounter a problem or issue that maybe we can help you with?”
I want to encourage interaction in class, and I also want to promote the idea that having experiences in English in your real life are really important.
I’m really happy when someone has an experience to share and when they ask me or the class for some feedback.
But it doesn’t happen much.
It seems that most students’ contact with English is only in class.
Are you different?
I’m sure there are plenty of events which are advertised in English in your town and where you can go and speak to Americans and Brits, and make connections in English.
The question is: why don’t you go to these events?
Do you think that a 60-minute lesson in some cases is enough to get you from where you are now to where you want to be?
Can you take one small step tomorrow towards meeting someone in English?
