100,000 kilometres. That’s how much I’ve travelled this past year or so, from Prague to Brno to Melbourne. I’ve closed down my Prague office, started working at a language school in Brno, and the latest news is that Get Into English will officially be based in Brno, Moravia, from this week.
The Prague Years
I had a great setup in Prague. Students and clients came to the training room in the very heart of town on Vodíčková street, which made it very easy to get to no matter where in town you lived.
The idea was for it to be a bit like the Central Perk cafe in the American TV show Friends, a welcoming place where you could come and sit on the sofa, sip a tea or coffee and discuss different aspects of learning English.
No hard uncomfortable chairs, no old traditional school desks.
I had my own English coursebooks and materials, and the latest in technological equipment.
Chillout music in the background.
I was fortunate that some really cool people contacted me for lessons, mostly through this blog. People from all diverse backgrounds.. The couple who sang in the opera. The Czech businessman who had his own château in the countryside. The Russian director who worked hard and travelled to exotic destinations around the continent. The model who went on to travel to Singapore. The conductor who performed across Europe.
Then there was the charming kickboxing instructor, the French dancer, and the young up and coming student who wished to work in politics. And I can’t forget the yogi couple who had started life a new leaf in life as parents.
This is definitely what I’ll most miss about my time in the Czech capital.
A Thank You
The last lessons at the Vodíčková room in Prague were with Monika, Martina and Alex, and I’m happy that we’re still in touch, along with Lucka and Tomáš, among others. As I said, I’ve been fortunate to have met so many interesting and cool people, and it’s been fascinating to see how differently people learn and make progress.
Thanks too to the lovely Hanka and Pavla who were my main ‘Czech helpers’ and company assistants during this time.
May the journey continue 😉
