Several months ago I wrote an article on why I like English coursebooks, yet here I am today announcing that I’m taking a break from using them. What’s up with that?
In short, I’d like to try some new and more creative things. My contract at the school where I have been working is now ending, and I’d now like to attract new students and clients to what I offer as part of ‘Get Into English.’
Having seen how coursebooks go at the school, I now want to design a new learning system that includes my own English podcasts, videos, interviews and worksheets. And who knows, maybe once it’s up and running I can contact the school again and offer to hold these lessons for their students. That could be really exciting.
I’d like to offer a learning programme which is significantly heavier on spoken English phrases, phrasal verbs, idioms and vocabulary, as well as on natural pronunciation.
The internet is rich in material too these days, and I want to exploit this much more.
Grammar will still be covered but more by using my own worksheets, and from concentrating on the language which students already produce. I’ll also promote grammar in a more lexical way – for example, here are 7 Present Perfect Phrases You Can Use In Conversation.
I’m already preparing the first learning programme for a student in Prague, and I hope to report back to you later on about how it’s going.
I still like some coursebooks, but I’d like to see where this goes. Maybe it’ll open more doors than I ever expected..

What’s up with that? – in short, what’s the point in doing this? Why is it like this?
Up and running – working as it should; starting to work
